Artist's Comments

My apologies for posting (almost) the same picture twice; you'll find the reason below. If you feel like faving or featuring this and haven't seen the black-framed version of my "Art of the Fugue", please visit it first and compare:

My friend and watcher =Zhania was wondering what my deviation "Art of the Fugue" [link] would look like with a white frame. Which is kind of ironic, because she seems to love black. :D The frames that form the edge for my pictures (note that I don't say "the frames around my pictures" - they're part of them) are often the result of some thinking and experimenting. They're not just decoration or a defensive zone against the outside world, they can be part of the composition (notably here: [link] ) and, in my opinion, they tend to emphasize the dark or the light parts of the image. In the case of my dark, conceptual and textured work, their degraded form or their absence are a conscious choice too. They can also be in some cases an indication of a (lighter) mood.

So, while I personally prefer a dark frame for my Kunst der Fuge, I'm keen to hear any discussion or arguments about them. And =Zhania too. :)

Amazingly, this little experiment got featured! :faint:

I vote for the white frame for this particular shot.

Thank you Stamatis, your opinion counts a lot for me! :#1:

"STREET" is great fun, but it's NOT pics of empty streets, your feet on the pavement, graffiti, traffic lights, ten poses of your girlfriend, or buildings without people. More info --> [link]

I like them both :giggle: (means: as usually, I cannot choose  ) : the white frame connects with the light-theme in the image - the black frame fits with the black marmer seats, and emphasises stability in my opinion... White or black - just depends on what you would like to emphasise in the image...

as I said: Like them both :D

frames always gave me a headache...
As you have noticed, I decided to use a double B/W in order to work both in dark and light backgrounds...but still I am not so sure about the use of frames in general...

Originally, I started using them because they just looked cool.

But then the green dA colour came into it, I discovered you could play with the effect that they had and that they could play a role in the composition.

I believe it was HCB who started the whole thing because he resented news editors cropping his pictures. But that doesn't mean it can't have other uses too.

I prefer the dark frame. I like how it ties the picture together. I don't get the feeling that the white frame belongs. Like it was put on as an afterthought. Kind of, "oh wait, I've got to have a frame" versus, "A black frame will bring this composition together." I am a fan of frames, personally. I will play with them until I find something that will complement the composition. Either way. It's a great piece. :D
