On the Shoulders of Giants by EricForFriends On the Shoulders of Giants by EricForFriends
San Sepolcro, Italy
After some delay elsewhere, we were on a rush to see what the writer Aldous Huxley called "the most beautiful painting in the world" before the museum closed. (It's Piero della Francesca's Resurrection, which is indeed pretty good.)
It turned out it was also the day of San Sepolcro's big fiesta, but I only could allow myself one shot and this is it.

As there was just a solid crowd before my eyes, I had to hold up my camera high above my head, press photographer-style. I've read several critiques that the Canon 450D's "Live View" (it has a big LCD that can give you a preview of your shot, like on a compact camera) is of limited use - well, it allowed me to frame this picture, so I don't want to hear any of that nonsense again!

still want to add: The framing with those two kids in the lower corners works really well - good luck that they both had striped shirts too - And that title of course is very well chosen! :D

Thanks again! :D I've considered a title referring to all the people in striped clothes, but in the end a simple title seemed better.

That's an awesome shot, Eric, and I must say: jealous of that LCD-screen! - have been trying this 'above the head'-shooting a few times myself recently - but in my case, it was very much a matter of 'trial and error'. Which actually meant: error :lmao:
This pic really is amazing - so many things to see and look at. Almost like a 'kijkdoos' :D

Despite not being able to focus, I also used the live view feature quite a few times. Quite nifty indeed. :)

I had mine on autofocus here, but it's a lens that's takes in more light than a standard lens, and the wide-angle helped too, I suppose. :)

Wait, can the 450D focus while in live view? o.O

I let it focus before I pressed the live view button and I was lucky. :D

Ah, I see. I usually do it the other way around, use live view to find my target, then turn it off, focus, and shoot. :)

He had to make a seven hour bus trip over the mountains to get to San Sepolcro, perhaps that softened him up. :giggle:
Not to mention other possible trips he might have been on. :weed: But it's really a good painting.

You're not fooling anyone, you know. You're on piggy back, just as those children are. Although expertly done, I see where you photoshopped out your feet, kicking with joy ...

Okay, okay, you found out. What that little guy on the right is saying is: "Look papa, that guy is wearing last year's shoes!"

I've had my doubts whether to put it in "Events" or even "Children", but the focus is on children. Just because there are children on it, it doesn't mean it can't be Street though. I think. :D

Thanks for the praise, Will!
