Sanok

Wooden church in the Sanok Skansen (open-air museum), Poland, august 2003. I have a liking for wood architecture, but these wooden churches in south-east Poland have really taken my heart. When you look at them, you can imagine them arguing about the bits that they want in and that they may have seen in town and half forgotten ("I want one of them onion thingies on the tower!" "I want two towers!" etc.) but they end up looking very individual and almost from another planet.

Shot on a Kodak (Gold?) 35 mm colour negative film with a Canon Eos, scanned on a high bitrate, and postprocessed digitally in 16-bits colours.

The film's colours have detoriated badly (2003, what did I know at the time...), but I'm still amazed how much of the tones were preserved or could be recovered with a little digital pushing and pulling. I've just used general layers for my corrections (curves, highlights, channel-mixing), no masking or correction on separate areas. It was still fun though.
