It's considered bad taste to create your own supportstamp, so I have never done so. It's also bad taste to post things that are not by yourself, but in this case I was more or less asked to by the artist, who wasn't and isn't able to do so herself, !nomikjustkaty She has been banned of dA after a conflict that has been handled - how shall I put - less than elegantly by dA management. Summa ius, summa iniuria.

Another friend of mine who has left dA said she expected to be soon forgotten, but speaking for myself, I still miss friends who have left dA, and I feel particularly bad about !nomikjustkaty's absence. Making a supportstamp is one of the really nice things people can do here for a friend, and I feel it would be ungrateful if I left it on my harddisk without using it. So Katy, wherever you are: thank you.:blackrose:

The little story behind this stamp is that Katy jointly with ~fotocali won the contest that =damien-c organized to give me a new (and proper) avatar. The problem was that she created a gif that was too large in filesize to work as an avatar. The version that I use now (and plan to use for a very long time) is just a trimmed-down version of the original. She put the original in a supportstamp for me, so you can still see what it was like.
"Eric walks you through time" isn't a motto I thought of my self, it was Katy's own idea and it's another reason why I love my avatar and this stamp so much.

Ah, DA admins... I've heard lots of quarrels from other people I watch due to the new sharing options. I don't find them to be problematic, but some do, and some admins handled it rather badly, especially the one who seems very young and looks down on some deviants. Only problem being that when he made an analogy, comparing artists here to people of a certain profession, there were actually people of the said profession who came forward and told him how flawed his comparison was. Ah well, where there's light, there are also shadows, the only reason I use DA is because of the great people one can meet here and the interaction with them, certainly not for the unreliable site and the often clumsy administration. :)

Nevertheless, great showing of appreciation with this stamp, really nice idea. :)

I think there are some fundamental problems with the introduction of new features on dA.

1. Firstly, the people in power only think of them in technical terms, they don't realize there can be other matters involved, like psychology, privacy, sheer emotion, and a whole bunch of human factors (I'm not just referring to the links, but also to the revealing of who gives a subscription, the 'need a premium subscription' thing).
2. Beta testing is done by volunteers, but people who volunteer for beta testing are bound to be interested in new technical goodies, and not the type that can be expected to feel bad about them, for all kinds of reasons.
3. Often new features aren't properly announced at all... surprise!!! However, surprises are only nice when you like what's coming.
4. There's always whining and complaining over new features, whatever they are. It's understandable if dA management tends to ignore people who complain, but sometimes the complainers might just have a point.

Given the circumstances, most admins are doing a hell of a job. Would they do the same in a professional setting, they'd get training about complaint-handling, conflict-management and all kinds of other essential skills, and they'd have eight hours every working day to do what they have to do, and there'd be a more rigorous selection on personality and life experience.
Instead dA admins do their thing practically for free, next to the other things they have do to stay alive, any knowledge about art they might have is a matter of pure luck, and many of them are too young to have any experience in what they're supposed to be doing. So, I tip my had to most of them for what they manage to accomplish anyway.

1. Yes, that's true. I didn't reall see any problem with the links, though I don't really know what purpose they serve. I tried linking one of my deviations in twitter, but it didn't do much than link the deviation, as if I'd have posted the URL. Is there more to it?

And yes, that subscription giving thing is a bit interesting to say the least, but can't one just not show that panel? As for the "Needs Premium" thing, I just dismissed it as marketing, though a rather peculiar one. These issues as such didn't really catch my attention any more than the banner ads do, though I admit that I blocked them.

2. and 3: You're right about that, I didn't really like the "new" DA we currently have very much, as it seems to clutter up everything. And about the beta testing, I wouldn't know if any of it is going on or not, but it would have certainly been a nice gesture to show the general user some of the new features before applying them.

4. Everyone probably says that he wasn't speeding when stopped by police, but when he really wasn't speeding and the police equipment was faulty, it doesn't really justify fining the guy just because everyone says the same. However, the fact that it's not just as such probably doesn't help here, as there is no way of knowing really.

I'm a bit divided on your last statement... If you really believe in something, and want to participate at something voluntarily, you try to get better and ask advice from those more experienced than you. There is the possibility of learning some things without any formal training if you really want to do it, and don't just do it to get attention or other reasons. Some of the admins seemed outright arrogant to me, and if there's one thing someone doesn't like, it must be to be talked down to by a youngster who doesn't seem to know what he's doing. But that's just how I felt about it in relating to a user's reaction to the new share links and the admins response to her. :)
